Terms of Use
The short version. You own the profile you publish. We host it. Be a decent person, don't impersonate someone else, don't try to break things. If either of us wants out, we part ways cleanly and your file goes with you.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of about-me.md and any related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by The Holding Company ("we", "us"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you disagree with any part, don't use the Service.
If you're using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. What we provide
- Handle registration — a subdomain of the form
yourhandle.about-me.md, unique to your account. - Profile hosting — serving your published markdown file, its structured JSON representation, and its
llms.txtderivative to humans and AI agents that request it. - An editor for updating your profile, plus versioning and export.
- An agent gateway for AI-agent queries against your profile (rate-limited per tier).
We may improve, add, or retire features. If we retire something you paid for, we'll pro-rate any unused subscription time or provide a reasonable replacement.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to create an account.
- You're responsible for keeping your credentials safe. Notify us at [email protected] if you suspect a breach.
- One account per person, with the exception of accounts you administer on behalf of a business or minor whose consent you hold.
4. Handles
- Handles are assigned first-come, first-served, subject to the reservation rules below.
- We reserve some handles for system use (
admin, api, www, and similar). See the current list at/reserved-handles.json. - We may reclaim a handle if you impersonate a real person, entity, or trademark you don't own; if the account has been inactive for 24 months with no paid subscription; or if a court orders us to.
- You may transfer a handle to another verified account by writing to [email protected]. We don't broker handle sales; users transacting on secondary markets do so at their own risk and we don't guarantee the transfer.
5. Your content
5.1 You own it
You retain every right to the content you publish through the Service. We claim no ownership of your profile, your writing, your links, or anything else you upload.
5.2 What you let us do with it
To operate the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive,
royalty-free license to host, cache, transmit, transform (e.g. into
text/markdown, application/json,
application/ld+json, and llms.txt), and
display your content — solely for the purpose of providing the Service
to you and the parties you direct it to. That license ends when you
delete the content, subject to backup retention (see Privacy Policy §7).
We do not use your content to train machine-learning models. If we ever want to, we'll ask you first, opt-in, per account, in writing.
5.3 What you promise about it
You represent that content you publish:
- doesn't infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, publicity, or privacy rights;
- isn't illegal where you live or where our servers are (US); and
- isn't intended to defraud, defame, or endanger anyone.
6. Acceptable use
Don't do any of these on the Service:
- Impersonate a real person, brand, or organization you don't represent.
- Publish material that's unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, sexually exploitative of minors, or that promotes violence.
- Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service (except via our security disclosure process at [email protected]).
- Interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service.
- Circumvent rate limits, paywalls, or authentication.
- Resell, sublicense, or systematically harvest the Service without our written permission.
- Use the Service to send spam, phishing, or malware.
We may remove content, suspend accounts, or terminate service for violations. Where possible we'll warn you first.
7. Paid plans
- Paid tiers renew automatically on the cadence you selected (monthly / annual) until you cancel.
- Cancel any time in Settings. When your paid period ends, your profile stays live in read-only mode — no upsell wall.
- All fees are in USD and exclusive of taxes. You're responsible for taxes in your jurisdiction.
- We offer a full refund within 14 days of your first paid charge if you're unhappy. After that, no partial refunds on time already elapsed.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers keep their current price for the remainder of the paid period.
8. Portability and cancellation
You can export your entire profile — markdown, uploaded assets, and metadata — at any time as a single ZIP. If you delete your account, we release your handle to the public pool after 30 days and destroy your content per our retention schedule (Privacy Policy §7).
9. Our stuff
The Service itself — our code, design, brand, and the aggregate patterns we learn from operating the platform — remains our property. You get a license to use it while you have an account. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our IP to you.
10. Third-party links and services
Your profile can link to third-party sites. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for what happens on them. Same for AI agents that read your profile — we're not responsible for what an agent does with what it reads.
11. Termination
- You can end this agreement any time by deleting your account.
- We can end this agreement if you materially breach these Terms and don't fix it within 14 days of us telling you, or immediately if the breach is dangerous (e.g. child safety, security, impersonation of a real person harming them).
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) do.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement to the extent allowed by law. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI agents will interpret your profile the way you'd want.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by law, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill. Our aggregate liability under these Terms won't exceed the greater of (a) $100 or (b) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your content, your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, or your infringement of a third party's rights.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes go to state or federal courts located in Delaware. If you're a consumer resident in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with mandatory local consumer protections, those protections continue to apply.
16. Changes to these Terms
When we make changes that reduce your rights or increase your obligations, we'll email account-holders at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new Terms. If you don't, cancel your account before then.
17. Miscellaneous
- These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us.
- If a court finds a clause unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- We don't waive our rights by not enforcing them right away.
- You can't assign this agreement without our consent. We can assign it to a successor entity (acquisition, reorganization).
